Angela Merkel, German chancellor, exposed her vision of Europe to six European newspapers: “an orchestra able to play in the markets' world concert” without concern with “the beauty of music or the orchestra's importance” because “they wish to ear anything convincing”. For a stateswomen that considers herself to be a music lover, also the profession of faith is neoliberal: the maestro is the world market. In an interview where not even once the European Central Bank is mentioned and transforms the punishing thesis in a matter of European solidarity, the chancellor makes depend the growth and the employment from appliance of labour laws currently running in her country and Eastern Europe, and from the structural reforms based on privatizations. The interview was published on the eve of the European Council meeting about the treaty of economic governance. English version in The Guardian
