MEP Miguel Portas on Libya made clear, on the other hand, the opposition from the left to any military intervention. “We know how military measures start and we know how they never end once they have started”, he said. During the debate about the situation in Libya that took place in the European Parliament, Miguel Portas underlined the importance of a change in the European position “regarding the way it has been acting” in the country – one “of the pillars of support from the ancient regime”. On the other hand, he added, “I want to make it clear that we are against any military intervention, including the measure that you can open doors, the no-fly zone; we know, by experience, how military measures start and we know they never end once they have started”.
